A Tory bill to charge every UK citizen for using the NHS is being debated today | Evolve Politics

A Tory MP has proposed a shocking bill which, if passed, will force ordinary peoples to pay for NHS services such as GP appointments and routine hospital procedures.

Proposed by Conservative MP Christopher Chope, The National Health Service (Co-Funding and CoPayment) Bill is listed to be discussed in Parliament today.

Patient co-payments - Help with NHS health costs in England

Patients are required to make a payment towards the cost of their:

prescriptions dental care eye care wigs and fabric supports

The money raised helps fund the NHS. For example, each year these payments cover the salary costs of more than 14,500 nurses.

Exemptions

Some patients don't have to pay these costs. If this is the case for you, the NHS will ask to see proof of your entitlement. This could be a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC), benefit award notice, or an exemption certificate.
